[...] De-listing, however, carries more political than economic significance. As discussed before (here and here), the DPRK still faces a myriad of legal barriers which restrict it from accessing global trade and financial markets, including the US Column 2 tariffs (Smoot-Hawley Tariffs), US Treasury sanctions, bilateral Japanese sanctions (renewed on Friday), and recent UN resolutions 1695 and 1718. In other words, the DPRK does not have much to gain financialy from de-lisitng.
There are also reports that there has been suspicious activity at a DPRK nuclear test site. Still, I'm confident that North Korea really wants to disarm, they just need a few more incentives. Sure, we're running out of stuff to give away, but if folks in this administration really put their heads together, I'm sure they can think of something. I hear someone is running around with a $700 billion check. Do you think we could get one of those for Hill?

<blockquote cite="Not to worry, though. They’ll all become stalwart opponents of appeasement soon enough when Obama sends “Kim Jong Bill” Richardson back to Pyongyang with a big check in his hand.">

This is what I fear most and I am in Korea. Democrats making nice with terrorist/rogue regimes a la Jimmy Carter.

Not good.</blockquote>

So what are the odds that McCain and Obama will actually be asked a North Korea question in one of these debates? I would like to hear what they think of appeasement without verification or if they think a similar deal would work with Iran.
