Even if Those Mad Cow Reports Were All False …

I still have problems with courts or government agencies ordering the media to print retractions.  Frankly, firing the editors is better than this.

  1. I don’t have a problem with this at all. There is material harm. The publishers need to correct as much of the harm as possible, just like I’d need to correct as much damage as possible if I damaged your property. Free political speech, yes. But this was yelling “fire!” in a crowded theater.

    If there was criminal intent—that is, they maliciously were trying to destroy the beef industry—then they should be tried for whatever crimes they committed in a criminal court.
