Non-Story of the Week

Minced beef with bread is now available in Pyongyang, leading North Korea watchers everywhere to whether full nuclear disarmament and freedom of the press can be far behind.

Seriously … why is this news?

Update:   Here’s a more practical response to the protein shortage in the North Korean diet.  Why, they say it tastes exactly like beef!   So do you want fries with your burger?

Ummm, just a guess, but maybe it’s news because it represents a great leap forward from a monotonous diet of boiled grass and tree bark?

  2. Whose leap? A trickle of foreign journalists, diplomats, and aid workers? Maybe a few lucky members of the North Korean elite, who (if you know anything about how North Korea really works) are hardly living on grass and bark.
