Jabba the Kim among the Ewoks, or worst photo op ever

Maybe the Associated Press’s new vocation as a propaganda outlet for North Korea has a brighter side than I’d originally realized. Today, the AP brings us what must be the worst photo op ever, a barracks inspection by Kim Jong Eun.

Where to begin? The unwittingly (I think) subversive decision to surround the morbidly obese kid — has he ever looked so fat? — with these lean, hungry leprechauns and their leathery, wizened officers? Posing him next to the their tiny little day-care bunks, about one-third of a Kim wide? Or standing His Porcine Majesty behind the tin plates holding meager rations that can’t possibly exceed his hourly caloric intake, set at intervals to fit wretches stunted down to the size of organ grinder monkeys? It’s things like this that convince me he’s doomed. It’s not just the manifest obscenity of his weight as ruler of a land where the lower castes and their orphans are left to starve in front of train stations. It’s the projection of inept fragility from the figurehead and the machine that made him one.

If the producer of this film really meant to glorify Jong Eun, he deserves to be sent packing to some God-forsaken ash-heap in the outer provinces. If he’s the world’s most cunningly courageous dissident, Seal Team Six should extract him and his entire family. On the Goebbels Scale of insidious propaganda genius, this makes Dukakis-in-a-tank look like Triumph of the Will. Not even Brian Myers can explain this away. Sure, I can believe that this video would be awfully persuasive to North Koreans, but to believe that it will be persuasive in the ways the regime wants it to be, you also have to believe that North Koreans are not just culturally different, but less than fully human.

  1. Dukakis is a veteran. He was stationed in Korea in the mid-fifties. I’m not sure, but I think he was in the armor. But once Republicans decide to ridicule a Democrat, and the media go along, the ridicule is permanent, or at least it will continue as long as guys like Joshua are ready to perpetuate it.

  2. Dukakis served two years in the Army with some of that time in Korea as a radio operator. He was not in an armor unit.

DUKAKIS’ MILITARY SERVICE UNEVENTFUL, SAY WHAT FEW RECORDS EXIST AFTER FIRE

Dukakis volunteered and promptly went on active duty in the regular Army on July 19, 1955. After basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., Dukakis went to Camp Gordon, Ga., for training as a radio operator.

Later, he was assigned to Munsan, South Korea, just south of the demilitarized zone in a unit supporting the Military Armistice Commission attempting to maintain the United Nations cease-fire.

  3. Joshua,

You are missing the fact that fatso is giving on-the-spot guidance. Reassuring, isn’t it?

  4. “What do you eat? Nothing.”

I’d read about that video. It was horrible to finally watch. Shook me.

  5. You Americans are pathetic. Who are you to judge this country, its people or its leader?
Why do you think you always know what everyone else should have in this country?
The North Koreans for the most part want the system that they have, and for that system to prosper. It’s amazing what a misleading picture American propaganda manages to produce of North Korea.

  6. @Snezhinka…. all that has presented here are pictures released by the might nork’s own propaganda machine. LOL

  7. @Snezhinka

We get it. Putin wouldn’t like North Korea to be united with South Korea. It would be a threat to their Siberian shores. And shift the power dramatically over to the free republics. Hey, just make sure Putin is still alive a couple of years from now, okay?

  8. Gosh he is fat!!!
Must have been pigging out a lot lately.

As you can see, non of the scared military-kids do not dare to look at him. No one.
Hopefully they are happy that they got 1 decilitre more corn soup this day, because the fat leader was visiting?

Is it only the elite/generals who is allowed to look AT him? Must be..

And the way he is explaining about how the school desk should be designed,(open/close) like it´s his idea when it is something we have had in Europe for almost 200 years 😉

  9. Man what a fat blob! But Dukakis was every bit as much of an embarassment even when he wasn’t in that tank back in 1988. Who cares if he was a veteran? His presidency would have been every bit as bad as Jabba the Kim’s or our current buffoon occupying the White House. But like the Communist ones on the streets, he will be removed and remembered as nothing more than a major league failure.
