Another Must-Read
Is Korea starting to figure things out, now that it’s too late? According to this piece in the Korea Herald, 82% of Americans surveyed favor the Pentagon’s plan to pull 12,000 troops out of Korea. Opposition was in the single digits. At first, I got excited–finally, someone asking what Americans think about Korea. As it turned out, however, the poll isn’t scientific; worse yet, it’s on Fox, which means that it’s from a skewed sample. Still, could anyone have expected an overwhelmingly conservative group to answer this way just two years ago? It partially confirms my suspicion that the ROK alliance has lost its U.S. base. It would be nice to see some journalists do some real digging on that story.
An afterthought–South Koreans despise Americans but still want the alliance. Americans generally like the South Koreans but don’t want the alliance. So much for arrogant imperialists.
