ADVANCE Democracy Act Press Conference
About that press conference: Just got back, but there is much to do at the office. Will give you a full report later. Much pointed discussion of North Korea, and a little entertainment, too.
UPDATE: OK, here are three posts for your reading pleasure–
- First, what’s in the bill itself; a nice, readable summary.
- Second, my observations on how the press has turned the U.S. Capitol into a closed shop, and how they managed to blow the story anyway.
- Third, my first-hand account of some very interesting remarks from Senators McCain and Lieberman, and from Congressmen Wolf and Lantos. Some dumb questions, too–not one of them mine.
UPDATE II: Here’s the Chosun Ilbo’s Korea-centric take. And here’s the Joongang’s. The new Korean ambassador’s claim of that his great connections with Evans Revere will save the day appear to be premature. Indeed, Korea’s view of diplomacy in the U.S. often seems based on an unrealistic belief in the power of connections. Connections start to matter much less when an issue gets the attention of the President and the voters.
