How Many Divisions Does the EU Have?
It must be the dumbest thing I’ve heard all year. The EU, which–
- lacks any military relevance to Northeast Asia other than its anxiousness to arm China;
- has done (along with its member states) virtually nothing to contribute to the security of Northeast Asia since 1953;
- has an abyssimal diplomatic record even on its own continent;
wants a seat at the six-party table. How typical of them to wait until North Korea completely walked away, revealing the nullity of the entire exercise.
I’m waiting for just one example of effective EU diplomacy on an issue that doesn’t involve wool or fisheries. Iran would be an excellent opportunity for some of its member states to show some spine, but the EU itself is another matter entirely–far more bureaucratic and divided than its members. Given the EU’s alignment toward China, the EU’s motives are suspect. The six-party talks are already a diplomatic basket of ants. In that context, the EU represents a whole new anthill.
