China Cracks Down on Blogs, Arrests Journalist

In its latest measure to tighten policing of the Internet, China has begun requiring bloggers and owners of personal Web sites to register with the government or be forced offline.

I suspect that I get plenty of hits from China, based on the number of “anonymouse” visits I get. If this site has indeed been blocked in Korea, it would represent a new step in the Sinification of Outer Koguryo. Very depressing for the in-laws, who don’t seem to grasp the where events are leading.

Meanwhile, China has arrested a reporter for the Singapore Straits Times for spying. The state secret he was trying to report? Information about Zhao Ziyang, who last held a position of power in 1989, at the time of the Tienanmen slaughter, and who last breathed several months ago.
