Sol’s Thoughts on Life

One person can’t create a cultural rebirth alone, but as North Koreans try to grasp the conscience of South Korea by the collar, it’s good to see them begin the participate in Korea’s cultural life and break the stereotype that North Koreans are all soulless, deadened automatons.

Right after graduating from elementary school, he made the first attempt to escape from North Korea and sneaked into Chinese territory. But he was caught by Chinese police and sent back. Since then, he escaped, and was sent back or returned voluntarily to bring his family, five more times. On one occasion he crossed the Tumen River to find his missing mother and miraculously met her and his sister, but was caught by Chinese police when they tried to scale the fence of a German school in Beijing.

Now he wears his hair long and plays in a band, using an instrument he built himself.
