Freedom House Announces Seoul Conference

Freedom House invites you to attend our second international conference on North Korean Human Rights entitled, The Seoul Summit: Promoting Human Rights in North Korea, to be held on December 8-10, 2005 at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul, Korea. [Link]

The Seoul Summit is shaping up to be the most exciting and important meeting to press for the improvement of North Korean human rights. We expect to bring together an outstanding group of individuals, NGOs, religious leaders, government and civic leaders from across Asia, Europe and North America. Our aim is to build on the success and the momentum that we gained from our first conference in Washington, D.C., this past July. Our international coalition, which includes Korean and European NGO partners, sees a real opportunity to shape the South Korean public that has so far been silent on the issue of North Korean human rights. The Seoul Summit will raise the profile of the egregious human rights abuses happening each day in North Korea and galvanize world opinion, as we prepare for our next meeting to be held in Brussels in March 2006.

Please register online at WWW.FREENK2005.COM. This conference is free and open to the public. A final agenda will be made available soon. If you would like additional information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Jessica L. Barnes, Program Officer for the Human Rights in North Korea Project at (202) 747-7049 or via email at: barnes@freedomhouse.org.
