Photoshopped?
Says commenter “olivianewtinseoul:”
You photoshopped Pyongyang black in your banner. Put it back to how ti is in that silly ass KOB.
The original is here, courtesy of the left-of-center Federation of American Scientists, and as linked by Slate’s Christopher Hitchens in his excellent article, “Worse than 1984: North Korea, Slave State.” The original was taken by NASA on April 15, 2001, using low light level imaging. If you shop around, you will find other photographs taken on different days in which Pyonyang appears as a tiny speck of light in a sea of black, comparable to the candlepower of any one of a galaxy of third-tier provincial backwaters in the South.
I cropped away the other countries and oceans (the area between Busan and Ullung-do also emits more light than Pyongyang, probably because of the bright lights used by squid boats). I then made those offshore portions of the image transparent for use in the banner. I also grayed out the eerie green lines that NASA put in to mark the borders and lines of latitude and longitude. Otherwise, the image is unaltered. Thanks for your insight, Oliviane, which wins you our WTF Comment of the Week, good for a free Dixie cup of ppondaegi.
