Things You Can’t Eat: “North Korea spent more than US$5.4 million on fireworks displays along the banks of the Taedong River in Pyongyang on Wednesday to celebrate former leader Kim Il-sung’s 98th birthday the following day. And President Lee Myung Bak, sounding more like an OFK guest blogger than ever, asks, “How much corn could you have bought with that money?” It’s on.
Is North Korea expanding its army again?
Did Kim Jong Il cancel his trip to China over the Cheonan Incident? But if my hunch is right, this development wasn’t entirely unanticipated.
Kremlinology: Open News has more succession propaganda, via a North Korean army newspaper.
Pictures of the very weird (even to the Chinese) North Korean exhibit at the Shanghai Expo.
Off-Topic
Some cool pictures of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.
Al Qaeda calls for the murder of Trey Parker and Matt Stone over a South Park episode. And sadly, Comedy Central gives the terrorists a victory.
The “Things you can’t eat” link makes sick to my stomach. I will be reposting. Thanks for that.
Oops. Should probably read your updates before I forward links to you, apologies.
At the end of the North Korean exhibit photos, I got a chuckle out of that playhouse-size North Korean bathtub. That would barely hold one leg of an average American.
Southpark not broadcasting pictures of the great muppet mohammed even seems to have upset Jon Stewart now, which pretty much highlights that this 7th century desert cult simply has no place in modern society. As such it is no coincidence that followers of this religion are such troublemakers once they choose(!) to live in other countries. It is a pity that Comedy Central has decided to self censure itself, but unfortunately it is also very pragmatic, because there is endless proof how far these blind koran followers actually go and many peeps have paid for it with either their lives or their freedom.
Effectivelly, what we have is a cult of a billion and half loonies with questionable body odeur. North Korea is a cult of only 23 million, but what both cults have in common is to subject other people – who they are vigirously jealous off – to their own backwards ways.
It is all quite simple really, mohammed and kim il sung were on the one hand ‘great sales persons’ thus being able to convince muppets to follow their ways and on the other hand, these two clowns suffered from the oldest of problems in men ie jealousy and a probable inferiority complex, which they felt they had to make up for one way or the other ie by being ‘creative destructors’.
In the meantime, watch out for this mosque coming near you very soon, where some hysterical sounding bearded man will wake you up 5am every morning. Cheers !
Chinese media is rather suddenly promoting the idea of Kim Jong Il traveling to China (perhaps to visit the Shanghai Expo), along with Kim Jong Eun. Seems a little weird, and of course unsubstantiated, but this is would appear to be biggest outbreak of successor acknowledgment (approval?) in the Chinese press since the “we don’t deny Kim Jong Eun is among us” last June in Beijing.
For whatever reason this hasn’t been reported yet today in South Korea or on the Chinese Daily NK, so perhaps it’s nothing.

Out of curiosity, did anyone ever find more evidence (perhaps available in Korean) that those two nasty characters sent to kill Hwang Jang Yop and then jump off of a building received “training in China” as asserted by JoongAng and then amplified on OFK?
Sounds like a good time for a coup then, Adam.

The only thing that stinks is your bigotry, Ernst.
Here in Hawaii I have the pleasure of living and studying amongst an international student body that includes not just people from the Pacific Rim but also many Middle Eastern countries and territories as well, including Palestine, Iran, and Iraq. “Loonies” is the last word I would use to describe any of them, including the Sunni who is very devout and occasionally has run-ins over issues of conduct with one of the Iranians who was also our neighbor.
Ernst, you shouldn’t judge people you’ve never met from places you I’m guessing you’ve never been to. That’s what they do in Russia.
Well dear kushibo, consider yourself to lucky to live in Hawaii, a great place of envy for many. But anyway, if you read my post correctly and ignore the puns, then you will find that there is a point in all of this that has nothing to do with bigotism.
It is merely a response to the intolerant and racist ways how many muslim folk ‘assert’ themselves in modern, western societies. There are too many examples of this to mention, I would suggest you take a look yourself.
Don’t kid yourself, Ernst. Your statement was an obnoxious one of bigotry and perhaps racism. Not just in Hawaii, but back in California as well, none of the Muslims I was well acquainted with “asserted themselves” in a way that would be intolerant or racist. Yours is a stereotype typically perpetrated by people with little or no meaningful contact with the people they’re disparaging.
Your statement was not a swipe at those Muslims who are intolerant and may even have a grip of fear over many other Muslims (something addressed here), but rather it referred to all Muslims — you specifically stated a billion and a half — as loonies.
Take a cue from MJ and start with the man in the mirror.
It’s 2 a.m., so if I keep writing, I may end up saying something I’ll regret. Good night!
Yes, that’s a very good suggestion, let’s listen to the music of a convicted peadophile, I am sure that will bring us world peace.
It is also not unreasonable to suggest that people who believe the teachings of a 7th century child rapist ie mohammed, are actually loonies.
Nothing racist about that, it’s just the affirmative action muppets and Berkeley that take offence. And students too by the looks of it.
Fine, it might be difficult, but will refer m4ppets to loonies then

Ernst, I at least find you to be amusing most of the time. You have a kind of talent… taking a possibly defensible topic –a reasoned attack on Islam as inherently incompatible with modern society — and turning it into an indefensible one-line racist slur. You set yourself up to get slammed… time and time again. You bring a kind of balance to the force, and I appreciate that. kind of. m4ppets indeed.
Given Ernst’s frequent violations of English orthography, your moderation list will fill up quickly with variant spellings.

It seems also to be South Korean, circa 1980-something. My 1981-manufactured apartment had a tiny tub that I, a 171-cm person, could sit down in only if I held my knees close to my chest as if the whole complex were about to make an unscheduled water landing.
It was no doubt set up to be a basin for soaking laundry or bathing small kids, two functions I had no use for, so when I refurbished the place I tore the whole thing out and made myself a nice glass-encased walk-in shower. If I ever have kids, I’ll wash them in the oversize sink I also installed.
