Overthrowing Kim: A Capitalist Manifesto (Part 4)

In the final installment for the foreseeable future, I discuss what we, and a North Korean underground, could hope to accomplish against the world’s most totalitarian state with a standing army of more than a million men.

  2. Yes, interesting piece, though not as strong as part 2 & 3 in my opinion. It has probably been the most ambitious one, because it is very difficult for anyone to make any accurate prediction how the North Korean saga will unfold.

    So, just two pennies here, which may as well be very unlikely, but rather than a North Korea ending up like a Somalia with nukes, or integrating seamlessly with the South, we can also imagine a NK ending up like oligarch Russia, open for a select few, old regime still in tact, but Kim-less. Or Burma with its own Junta in the capacity of a Defense Commision supressing the people in good fashion. I can also imagine NK’s factionalism doesn’t necessarily have to be uncontainable.

    There was once a story about KJI reminding nearly everyone in the elite how the Ceausescu’s went out on a whim, and it can be reasonable assumed that many stake holders in the NK regime will be aware of this and as such may close rank without too much hassle.

    Sure a few people will die, but that’s not the same as a country in anarchy. There are many thousands in the elite who will be very much aware of what’s there to lose(!).

    But this part 4 seems to be driven by an underlying hope and desire to see freedom for the North Koreans, but it is not certain that this is the logical and inevitable outcome of KJI’s demise, as well as a KJE not cutting it.

    My opinion for what it’s worth, is that North Korea could easily be landlocked for another 20, 30 years. That would suit China, Japan, US and S-Korea too, don’t forget. Most importantly, it would suit the North Koreans probably too.

  3. I finally got around to reading all four parts of your “Capitalist Manifesto” and only two words come to mind: “pure genius.” Now if only we could get this in the hands of some Washington big wig…

Ernst Im pretty sure that if north korea remains land locked for the near future and follows their fore fathers ways of just turning into hermits again, and shouting from their mountain hills like idiots. The yes , both China and America could agree on something. Korea belongs to China. Japan belongs to the U.S..
