More criticism of North Korea appears in the Chinese press
It will take more than this and this to convince me that China has tipped away from its support for North Korea, but a growing movement to take on North Korea’s crimes against humanity in the U.N., and a growing threat of secondary sanctions in our own Congress, have made North Korea a greater liability for China than ever before.
In the same sense that North Korea has been forced to shift its tone on human rights and feign willingness to engage in sincere dialogue about the subject, China is probably calculating that it has to convince influential foreigners that it’s finally ready — no, this time, we really mean it! — to pressure North Korea to behave.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Gerry Connolly is a cosponsor of HB 1771. This outstanding congressman, a great supporter of human rights for North Koreans, deserves reelection.
… and Suzanne Scholte has been fighting for human rights in North Korea for well over a decade. Like I said before, it’s a contest between good and best. Suzanne is the best candidate for those who want just one member of Congress out of 535 to care as much about this issue as they do.
If Connolly was running against anyone but Suzanne, I might have supported him. But a candidate as good as Suzanne Scholte is a rare opportunity I hope we won’t miss.
If we hadn’t cut the NIH budget over the last ten years, we’d probably have an Ebola vaccine by now. Suzanne’s mindless boilerplate doesn’t even mention the NIH.
