Reporters Without Borders Petitions for the Release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee
Fittingly, Reporters Without Borders has launched an online petition for the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who are now facing a North Korean “trial” for allegedly crossing the border between China and North Korea. Regardless of which side of the border Ling and Lee were on, or your views about North Korea policy, every reasonable person should agree that holding Ling and Lee is unjustified; indeed, it’s clear that North Korea is holding them as “bargaining chips,” which is really a euphemism for “hostages.” I signed, and the entire process took less an a minute. (Hat tip to a friend.)
Joshua: Thank you for bringing the petition to our attention. I signed as well.
Joshua, I’m curious what insight you might have into something like this. Is this significant?
Kushibo, my opinion is that it is significant, in that, it is long overdue – I found the following to be still current, and worse now with Chongo-ri, “dedicated to repatriated refugees and whose harsh conditions are intended to stop the flow of refugees to China by scaring citizens into staying put.”
